No reason to be sorry Michael. I was just saying that a columnist doesn't win the game and there is enough of them out there that you can always find one who's an idiot for at least the upcoming week's game.

There are Coug message boards!?! Who would have thought... you'd think they'd have all closed down after the last couple years.

In any case, the Coug's are know for their early season confidence and their end of season collapses because of their amazing easy non-conference games. (In fact, the one tough opponent they had this year (Auburn) just demolished them (40-14).

They can talk all about their awesome defense, but as the statistics I pubished show, the teams they've played to date are only scoring 20.5 points per game. It doesn't make their defenses 18.5 points per game very impressive. Cal on the other hand has played teams that put up an average of 30 points and only gave up an average of 21 points to those teams, including many "the game was already over" points. It's just further proof of the difference in quality of opponent Cal has played, and Cal is the only one of the two teams blowing out its opponents.

This game reminds me of the ASU defense... the one with 6.0 sacks per game coming into the Cal game... yeah we all know what happened. WaZoo is the one who is going to be feeling the defensive pressure.

There are SO many indicators that point to a Cal victory... you'll see when I do my game preview tomorrow.

Sorry Ken, you are the voice of reason. And I guess you can never be 100% confident your team will win no matter how much you're supposed to (see Stanford vs. UC Davis, 2005). Maybe the Cougs will derail us. They sure seem to think so on their message boards. I've been hearing we haven't seen anything like their D ever and they're going to hold us to 20 while they put 40 up on us. I just hope the players don't look past this game, and do their best to get up for it. Without TV, who knows what shenanigans will be pulled...I have witnessed first hand the desire of Pac-10 officiating crews to allow Cal players to be possibly seriously injured by flagrant fouls while the gleefully admonish DJax for a little dancing after a big play. I wouldn't put anything past those vile affronts to humanity. We not only have to win this game, we have to win it convincingly so the refs can't steal it from us.

I very much understand your thinking Jason and Michael. I've been dreaming of a Rose Bowl visit for my entire life and would be nothing but estatic to go, even if Cal gets "screwed" out of the national championship game. In fact, even if the Bears managed to get to the national championship game a part of me would would be sad that it would mean missing the Rose Bowl.

That said, there would be nothing better for the program than to win a national championship. Recruiting would get that much easier, fundraising for the stadium/facilities would be that much easier (which helps recruiting) and TV contracts would be that much easier (which helps with recruiting.

But what's great about focusing on the Rose Bowl is that it is completely in the Bear's control. No need for lobbying, no need for scoreboard watching. Just focus each week on beating their remaining Pac-10 opponents. If for no other reason than focus, I guarantee you that's the bowl Tedford is goaling towards.

Michael, there's no need to worry about the spread or what stupid columnists think against WSU. Just get ready to hear Starkey going nuts for 3 1/2 hours.

I agree with Jason. Rose Bowl. Rose Bowl. Rose Bowl.
Some idiot named Horowitz is predicting a WSU victory this weekend on Sportsline.com http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/expertpicks. With every other pick he's towing the same line as everyone else, so he must just have a thing against Cal.

We're favored by a touchdown, which, incidentally is right about how much we were favored against a ranked Oregon. Is WSU a ranked team without my knowing it? If I were an Oregon fan. I'd be insulted by that.

Frankly, Ken, I've never been focused on the national championship. Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl. That's the key. Win out, go to the Rose Bowl, dream fulfilled. That's all I'm wishing for.

Please don't make me go to the Holiday Bowl again!!

Thanks Seth. And yeah, the TV situation is ridiculous but from the sounds of it, it is wiser to write WSU and yell at them because they're the ones being obstructionists.

Oh well, it'll be another Joe Starkey Saturday.
