Bears move up in rankings

The Bears are up to 16th in the AP poll (17th in the coaches).  I’ve noticed that there seems to be a delay factor with Pac-10 teams (outside of USC).  While we didn’t move much after that ASU win, a week later while continuing to win and the bears make a significant jump.  Yes, it helps that 3 teams not far ahead of us lost, but we still leapfrogged the idle Florida State.

Oregon is up to 11, setting up a much more lofty showdown between us next Saturday at 5:00 PM.  I hope you guys have your tickets because from what I understand it’s expected to sellout.

I’m coming! And bringing another friend. Hopefully she will understand what an event this is. I have heard that both the blue AND the gold tarps will be coming off for this one. I will do some vocal exercises before the game so I’m ready. Wierded out that we are favored by 6, but heck, I’ll take it.

Jeez Michael, how many “friends” do you have? :)

Yeah, no tarps… part of that will be because of a large Oregon contingent, but I’m sure all the Cal fans will be coming out of the woodworks. The stadium has the potential to be REALLY loud this weekend. If it’s not, it won’t be my fault, I can guarantee you that.

The spread for equally matched teams (or so it is thought) is about 4-5 points for the home team. That explains the current spread with a slight leaning our way. I would expect that if the game was in Eugene, Oregon would be favored by 3-4 points.

Hey, unless my Dad wants to go to a game, I’d much rather have a female with me every time.

This game means more than any other game this year. More than the U$C game even in my estimation. I may be an unrepentant homer, but I think the best two teams in the Pac-10 will be taking the field at Memorial on Sat.

I heard that every time OSU got a 1st down that the PA guy would be like “And Oregon State get another….” and the crowd would scream out “first down!” I wish Cal fans could get their act together enough to do something like that. Also, if we could actually sing one of the fight songs instead of just having the band play it. Like “Hail to the Victors” or something like that at Michigan. Some Cal fans were singing Fight For California out loud at the Stanford game at the end (I have it on one of the videos on my site mixed in with the photos from that game) and that was pretty cool, but I haven’t seen it at home. We need to learn the lesson of Tennessee and make Memorial rockin!

this would be a great game to gamble on if i had not lost all of my money last yr v. ucla!

Michael, OSU brought that same FIRST DOWN chant with them to Berkeley last year. There was a cadre of OSU fans in our section. It was quite annoying.

Seth, this is another game that is unwise to gamble on. Even if we win, covering a 5.5 point spread won’t be easy. If I were a gambling man, I’d put my money on Washington with the 20.5 points that USC has to give them this week. That’s free money considering how both teams are playing.
