Banished from Consideration or diScussion

OK, that’s a stretch of way to get BCS in my title, but if you’ve got a better suggestion leave it in the comment box.

The point however remains:  The discussion of the BCS standings are now officially banished from this blog until December 3rd, 2006.  There will be no posts on the subject and all future comments that mention it will be edited to reflect the ban.

I know this sounds a little out of the blue from the guy who just last week had a lengthy post about Cal’s chances of going to the National Title game but I’ve had a change of heart.

I found myself listening to the WaZoo game being disappointed and thinking “this is not going to impress the pollsters”.  I don’t want to listen to games thinking about whether the pollsters will be impressed or whether Cal is covering the spread (another mark of “impressive” wins).  I don’t want to spend every Sunday arguing about recently released BCS standings and whether Cal got the shaft and what kind of respect Cal and and the Pac-10 are or are not  gettting.

Nope, I just want to focus on the game and the wins.  As such BCS discussion is henceforth banned from this blog.

I see where you’re coming from, Ken. The reality for Cal fans is: If Cal wins out, it goes to the Rose Bowl (or in a bizarre chain of events, the national title game). That’s pretty basic, and I think the chances for a Pac-10 title are the best Cal has had in years. So it’s a good thing to focus on, and it’s something that Cal can control itself.

If Cal loses to USC, there might still be a Rose Bowl in there, but it would require a chain of events almost as bizarre as the one leading to the title game, and would be completely out of Cal’s hands. It’s just not something we can worry about. Until Mack Brown breaks out his speed-dial, it’s best if we all just not think about it.

Good call. BCS at this point is useless…although it is fun to watch and listen to those SEC people whine and complain about how tough they have it.

Cal controls its own destiny, simple as that. Win out and let the chips fall as they may. Worst case scenaio would be the Rose Bowl.

“Until Mack Brown breaks out his speed-dial”… that cracks me up.

I’m even willing to discuss Pac-10 wins and losses. Things like can Cal lose to USC and still win the Pac-10 (answer: yes, if Oregon beats them and wins out). But I just don’t want to discuss anything that isn’t about wins, loses and Pac-10 championship tie-breakers.

I just don’t want to talk about “quality wins” and crud like that.

Am I bitter just a little bit about Mack Brown? Yes. Yes I am.

(editors note: removed BCS commentary… sorry Danny, but the Rose Bowl requires no impressive wins for Cal, just victories)

I think you are taking the wrong stance! The BANNED is a necessary evil. I would enjoy very much your ranting about not having an impressive win to try and get more votes! They need to have impressive wins. They might not have a great shot at the national title, but they have a very good chance at the Rose bowl. Also if some things fall through they could make it to the championship game.

If BANNED or BANNED lose to someone before they meet each other. Then the loser beats the undefeated one. Alredy BANNED is ahead of those teams.

BANNED and BANNED both play BANNED. BANNED will be ahead of BANNED.

BANNED and BANNED are tough games for the BANNED of the above game also. If they drop a game, BANNED leap frogs both of them!

If BANNED beats BANNED, not only do they get more BANNED, they also pass BANNED!

BANNED/ BANNED. Root for BANNED in this game, and BANNED will fall past BANNED.

All these are not that hard to imagine! BANNED actually could fight for BANNED!

Also how come this comments page is Oregon colors? jk

I’m glad you were able to see the humor in it Danny. I was a bit worried you’d see it as a mean-spirited action on my part when (as you rightly determined) it was all in good fun.
